WEATHERPROOF SINCE 1943

Originally developed in 1943 by the Shirley Institute, Ventile® embodies a legacy of innovation and endurance, trusted by the pioneering mountaineers and explorers of the 20th century.

Heritage

During the 1940s, the British RAF recognised the need for a new type of flight suit– that would offer comfort during flight and protection if airmen were downed at sea. For this they turned to the Shirley Institute, home of the British Cotton Industry Research. Drawing on its rich expertise – the Institute developed what became known as Ventile®.

Ventile® fabric was credited with saving the lives of many airmen during the war and was later used by the pioneering mountaineers and polar explorers for their expeditions on Everest and beyond.

Ventile Heritage

Ventile® Classic

Ventile® Classic fabrics continue the legacy of the original design concept. Crafted from extra-long staple cotton yarns and woven to an exceptionally dense structure, they offer both outstanding comfort in dry conditions and remarkable weatherproof protection when wet.

Each Ventile® Classic fabric is precisely woven and finished in Europe, using the finest 100% cotton yarns developed specifically for this purpose.

Ventile®

Ventile® fabrics build on the original concept with a modern approach, introducing new constructions and yarn innovations such as recycled cotton, hemp, and wool.

Staying true to their heritage, these fabrics continue to rely on natural fibres to deliver weatherproof performance, without the need for membranes or coatings.
