At Ventile, we believe that nurturing the next generation of designers is essential for a sustainable future in fashion. This year we have partnered with Ravensbourne University London to deliver an Outerwear competition for students with a passion for sustainability in the fashion industry.

This collaboration aims to inspire the next generation of designers and raise awareness about the importance of making sustainable choices.

A Shared Vision for Sustainability

Built upon a shared interest in technical natural fabric, the partnership came about from a chance meeting at the Future Fabrics Expo, the largest dedicated sourcing destination for sustainably produced materials. Recognising the technical properties, sustainable credentials, and high-end appeal of Ventile fabrics, the team worked together to develop the Product Innovation brief; a challenge to reimagine classic outerwear with sustainability at its core.

In an era where fast fashion dominates, sustainability in design and production has never been more relevant. For the students at Ravensbourne, this project isn’t just an academic exercise; it’s an opportunity to shape the future of fashion. Through an understanding of Ventile fabrics, they can explore how technical textiles promote longevity and reduce environmental impact, demonstrating that quality and responsibility go hand in hand.

Real-World Learning through Collaboration

Collaborative projects like this one offer invaluable experience for students, preparing them as they enter a highly competitive industry. By working with Ventile, the students gain insights into the practicalities of sourcing, designing, manufacturing and innovating with sustainable materials. Feedback from our team and their university mentors helps bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application.

Ravensbourne focuses on hands-on experience that mirrors industry practices to offer students a safe space to experiment and innovate while building essential skills. As part of this project, students will not only design an outerwear collection, but they will also analyse their textile choices and demonstrate an understanding of sustainable materials. One standout student will then work with a professional machinist to have their garment developed using Ventile fabric.
