As we become increasingly more aware of the impact our choices have on the environment, initiatives like Plastic Free July invite us to reflect on our way of consuming – from the coffee cups we use to the clothing and accessories we wear.
At Ventile, we are committed to working towards a more sustainable future not only by using all-natural fibres but also by encouraging our customers to join our campaign: ‘Join the movement. Love the environment. Choose slow fashion.’
Why go Plastic Free?
We have been developing high-performance, all-natural textiles since our very beginning in 1943. At its inception, Ventile started as a 100% cotton fabric. Fast-forward to today, we now have a range that includes recycled cotton, hemp, linen and lyocell blends.
The unique construction of Ventile means designers do not need to introduce any additional synthetic membranes to ensure protection against the elements. A single layer of Ventile can keep you dry, comfortable and in style, all by using durable natural fibres.
So, as our Brand Director, Daniel Odermatt, says: “Why use plastic when you can get outstanding results from natural materials?”
“Natural fibres, when developed and tested with innovative methods as we do, offer unrivalled performance, durability and breathability, and they can be grown following biodynamic principles.”
Insights from an industry expert
“Our parents and grandparents ran as fast as we do, climbed as high, played golf and tennis, skied and even took part in the Tour de France in natural materials. Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing reached the summit of Mount Everest wearing wool and cotton, and Ventile for that matter, as well as a thick feather down jacket. The South Pole and the North Pole were conquered in natural materials, and entire crews survived the Arctic winter protected by the best that nature has to offer”, commented Nicolas Rochat, CEO of plastic-free sportwear brand, Mover.
Mover develops garments that are completely plastic-free, right down to the threads and accessories. In the first half of this year, the brand has seen a re-purchase rate of 43% on its website, showcasing that customers are participating in their approach.
