Born in Cyprus to an American family, then brought up in French-speaking Africa until the age of 10, Katherine Hooker’s earliest memories are ones that are full of colour, intrigue and nostalgic abandon.
In the summer of 2003, Katherine boarded a plane to India armed with a suitcase full of tweed fabric and ideas. Working closely with a village tailor in the region of Kerala, she sketched six original coat designs and three weeks later, Katherine touched down in London ready to establish the Katherine Hooker brand.
Fusing vintage East Coast American heritage with contemporary English designs, the Katherine Hooker brand prides itself on creating classic, stylish and simple clothing, using the highest quality fabrics and materials.
For many years, Katherine Hooker has partnered with Ventile, the world’s first truly effective all-weather fabric, for its outerwear products.
Developed by scientists at the Shirley Institute in Manchester, Northern England, Ventile was originally created to help save the lives of Air Force pilots flying over the Atlantic during wartime England. The innovative fabric was cool and comfortable in the cockpit, but warm and impenetrable if it came into contact with water. This unique technology helped to increase life expectancy in the sea tenfold. Today, Ventile fabric continues to be used globally by branches of the Air Force, as well as by adventurers and fashion designers looking for a robust, water resistant yet natural textile.
